Who is Justin "JG" Geller

Justin Geller who is also known under the sobriquet JG is a Philadelphia-based sound, lighting and video technical designer, as well as a creative technical consultant. He also writes and produces original music and sound-based art for film, video, outdoor installations and commercial release. Known for projects like Klip Collective’s Esper Down the Lane and David Guinn’s mural at Highley House in Miami, Florida. Justin has built an industry reputation as a consummate professional.

The Project

For this project Justin worked with Klip Collective on their installation Time Loop at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas, USA. Creative Director Ricardo Rivera envisioned an outdoor, site-responsive experience. Featuring six immersive installations with projection, lighting and audio. Three of these amazing installations used Advatek products.

Infinite Wave

The first was Infinite Wave, an anamorphic sculpture lined with high-resolution pixel-mapped LED neon that comes into form as a visitor approaches it from a specific viewpoint.

Repeater

The second was Repeater, a 50-foot diameter, 2 meter high, 360-degree installation of pixel tubes set in a forest clearing. Where visitors can walk around and inside the installation and in the process be surrounded by lights themselves.

Broken Time Machine

Finally, Broken Time Machine is a “broken” geodesic dome sculpture covered with time-delayed and effected projection mapped video of visitors. This combined with thin neon LED accents created reactive and generative light patterns to give a sense of slipping out of time to visitors.

Advatek's Role

Justin and Klip have used Advatek’s Mk2 range in the past but as their projects became more complex, they knew they’d have to move to the advanced PixLite® Mk3 range. After reviewing the requirements of Time Loop and the offerings in the PixLite® Mk3 range, they specifically chose the PixLite® A4-S Mk3. They were blown away with the additional features like the Dual-Gigabit ethernet ports for device network daisy-chaining and advanced onboard pixel processing functions such as gamma correction and dithering. Justin had this to say about these features specifically:

We couldn't believe how much better the colors looked with the A4-S. We've never been able to get oranges and purples that pop as well as they do on these devices. The dual ethernet ports are a game-changer too.

Results

Together both Justin and Klip Collective were able to create some incredibly striking pieces. Using the advanced Mk3 features offered by the PixLite® A4-S Mk3 the team was able to build installations that not only looked amazing but took visitors through a whole sensory experience.
