Who is Light-Ctrl

Light-Ctrl is an Australian based specialist lighting and new media company dedicated to delivering immersive, dynamic and technically sophisticated illuminated experiences. With a strong collaborative focus, Light-Ctrl partner with artists, designers, architects, engineers and curators to bring visionary concepts to life.

The Project

Light-Ctrl partnered with Arup Melbourne’s specialist lighting design team and Nilsen Electrical to deliver an incredible piece of media architecture for NEXTDC’s A1 Data Centre - the first Tier IV-certified data facility in South Australia.

The centerpiece of the installation is the building’s facade – featuring vertical fins embedded with digital linear lighting turning the building into a dynamic, generative media surface. The display can respond to real time inputs and is scheduled to reflect significant community events throughout the calendar year.

The Solution

To facilitate a complex installation process and ultimately achieve real-time control of nearly 15,000 individual RGBW LEDs, the solution was to utilize pixel data on an eDMX control backbone. Light-Ctrl was responsible for technical deployment including systems supply, integration, and content programming.

With such a high-profile installation, Light-Ctrl did not compromise when specifying highly-robust infrastructure - that’s why they chose to use Advatek products.

In this installation, we deployed a Long Range solution consisting of PixLite® T8-S Mk3 and PixLite® R2F-S. Specifically in this layout, the Long Range transmitters were installed in an internal communications storage rack, alongside the media server, while the receivers were installed remotely on the roof-level with limited access.

Advatek's Role

By using the PixLite® Long Range System, Light-Ctrl was able to ensure peace of mind for the installation process and ongoing reliability, with clear supporting documentation and a five-year warranty.

Taylor Chadwick at Light-Ctrl also mentions how:

Advatek's PixLite® Mk3 range is our go-to when working with pixels, especially on high-profile installations like this one where reliability is non-negotiable. The performance is unmatched, the configuration process is simple, and the documentation is spot on

Do you Need a Long Range System?

Results

With Advatek’s PixLite® Mk3 control infrastructure forming the backbone of the system, Light-Ctrl was able to design and deliver a robust, high-performance lighting solution for the NEXTDC A1 media facade. Leveraging the performance and reliability of the T8-S Mk3 transmitters and R2F-S receivers, the result is an amazing new presence on the Adelaide skyline.
