LED Pixel Protocol Brightek VF1212VGBCHN1

Overview

This pixel LED from Brightek uses the 3BA031601M1 pixel IC. Together with integrated LEDs in a small SMD1212 package, this ICLED is referred to as the Brightek VF1212VGBCHN1. The 16-bit color resolution and built-in individual color digital current control makes this chip ideal for integrating into pixel LED glass panels for applications like transparent LED windows.

The same pixel IC chip is also used in two other Brightek pixel fixtures, including C32020VGBCH01 and C31212VGBCH04.

Current Control

Brightek VF1212VGBCHN1 has the ability to digitally control the current of the connected LEDs. Use the 5-bit current control per color to lower the brightness without sacrificing resolution, and tune the current of individual colors, allowing for more accurate color mixing. This individual current control can be set when configuring your PixLite Mk3 controller

Note: Advatek Lighting is in no way affiliated with Brightek, or the ICLED product.

Considerations for Use

Advantages

  • High PWM rate allows for filming these pixels with cameras up to 133FPS
  • 16 bits of data for each color makes dimming curves very smooth
  • Redundant data line reduces chance of entire strip failure
  • SMD1212 package makes the pixel chip ideal for integrating into compact applications

Disadvantages

  • Data-only restricts refresh rates to be limited by the speed of the protocol, which can be slow
