LED Pixel Protocol SM15055

Overview

This pixel protocol was developed by Shenzhen Sunmoon Microelectronics in China.

SM15055 is a five-channel constant current pixel LED driver IC, designed for applications requiring control of RGB plus two additional channels for RGB+CCT. It is commonly used in architectural lighting, signage and professional lighting products and systems where smooth dimming performance and precise low-level output are important.

The control circuit is available in ESOP8 and EMSOP8 packages, enabling flexible external LED and circuit design.

Advantages

  • Five-channel output (RGBW1W2) enables advanced color mixing and accurate white tuning across warm and cool white LEDs
  • High PWM rate allows for filming these pixels with cameras up to 133fps
  • 16-bit grayscale per channel enables extremely smooth dimming and color transitions

Disadvantages

  • Data-only restricts refresh rate to be limited by the speed of the protocol, which can be shown
  • Limited to 5v input, causing short cable lengths
  • Digital current control is not supported, so the color mix cannot be digitally tune on-site
