Overview

Advatek has developed a suite of generic pixel GDTF (General Device Type Format) profiles, now available via the Advatek manufacturer listing on the GDTF Share platform.

Designed to support a wide range of creative workflows, these profiles make it easier to represent individual LED pixels across lighting consoles, media servers, CAD and previsualization tools, as well as pixel mapping environments.

Rather than being tied to a specific Advatek controller output or pixel product, these flexible profiles offer clean, reusable fixture definitions for common pixel channel configurations such as RGB, RGBW, and RGBCCT. Both data-driven and geometry-based models are included, giving designers and programmers the versatility they need to bring projects to life more efficiently.

What is GDTF?

GDTF is an open industry standard designed to provide a consistent fixture profile that can be shared across lighting consoles, visualizers, and design software platforms. GDTF files contain data surrounding the properties of fixtures, including DMX channel layouts, operating modes, geometry, and control attributes.

These fixture profiles are designed to simplify workflow integration between elements upstream of PixLite Mk3 controllers to reduce friction system-wide:

  • Lighting consoles
  • Media servers
  • CAD / previsualization software

The goal is to provide clean, reusable generic pixel profiles that work well for planning, patching, visualization, and playback workflows.

Available fixture types

Available Fixture Types

Two categories of fixtures are included:

1. Data Only Fixtures

These fixtures contain channel and DMX personality data only, with no physical geometry attached.

They are ideal for:

  • Lighting console patching
  • Media server workflows
  • Pixel mapping software
  • Show programming

2. Physical Pixel Fixtures

These fixtures include a simple physical representation of a 5050 SMD LED pixel, complete with:

  • Basic geometry
  • Configured light output
  • Approximate brightness values representative of common LED pixels

These are intended primarily for:

  • CAD planning
  • Previsualization
  • 3D visualization workflows

Many visualization platforms allow custom geometry replacement if you have specific fixtures, but these fixtures provide a strong starting point for realistic pixel layouts.

Recommended Workflow with PixLite Mk3 Controllers

These fixtures / GDTF profiles are intentionally built around a standardized channel order.

Using the color reordering functionality onboard PixLite controllers, you can match the real-world strip or pixel order to the fixture profile used during planning and programming.

This provides several advantages:

  • Consistent patching between projects
  • Cleaner previsualization workflows 
  • Simplified console templates
  • Easier media server integration
  • Reduced need for custom fixture profiles


For example:

  • Your lighting software can remain patched as RGB
  • PixLite can handle remapping to actual pixel orders such as:
  • GRB
  • BRG
  • RGBWX variants 
  • Custom hardware arrangements

This keeps the programming environment predictable while allowing flexibility in hardware selection.
